Maximising crusher production with BA Equipment’s specialised boom system services.
Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.
For any mine site of any size, maintaining continuous production is always one of the highest priorities. Only secondary to workplace health & safety. To guarantee any level of productivity and safety manufacturers will always strongly encourage ongoing and preventative maintenance.
However, operators will always concern about how to best make sure their equipment is well maintained whilst also minimizing downtime. This is where BA Equipment Groups specialised maintenance and repair skills come into play. For primary and secondary crushing plants to crush at their maximum capacities they tend to require a fixed boom system to be mounted above it and to be available 24/7 while the mine is in production. Transmin is Australia’s only production boom manufacturer and has been producing heavy duty boom systems designed for 24/7 mine site operations for over 30 years.
Since 2015 Transmin has appointed BA Equipment Group as its authorised service agent, as they recognised BA Equipment’s unique skill set to be able to offer their customers outstanding high-quality service, by utilising their in-depth knowledge in plant operation procedures, boom and hydraulic attachment maintenance and repairs and mine site safety.
This knowledge allows BA Equipment to offer customised solutions to help minimise downtime of the crushing plant – ranging from onsite boom audits, site repairs, shut down service crews, removal of old boom system, installation – commissioning of new and rebuilt booms as well as providing full rebuilds of fixed booms either on site or in our workshops.
Recently BA Equipment Group Queensland were carrying out an onsite audit of a key piece of equipment for one of their customers. The Australian made Transmin MD25/25 boom system mounted over a gyratory crusher at a remove Australian mine site.
The purpose of this onsite audit was to carry out minor repairs and complete a detailed inspection of the complete boom system, discuss repairs options and timing. In addition, a detailed written report was provided to the customer.
The customer decided that after 10+ years of reliable production that it was time for the boom to undergo its first major service.
Proper planning prevents excessive downtime and reduced production.
A major reason why so many operations rely on BA Equipment’s expertise is their proven ability to help reduce loss of production due to equipment failure. To make sure primary and secondary crushing plants are able to crush at their maximum capacities they tend to depend on a fixed boom system and it needs to be operational every hour that the plant is running, and this case was no exception.
BA Equipment completed the site audit and developed a scope of works that would ensure loss of production was kept to a minimum. They utilized site shutdowns to remove the unit that was due for a major service to bring it back into the OEM standards. So for the period that the unit was offsite, BA Equipment provided a replacement unit whilst the customer’s boom was offsite.
OEM quality service and maintenance.
With the boom now back at the BA Equipment Group headquarters in Queensland BA’s trade qualified, OEM trained technicians were able to start the major service. With a complete tear down the unit was able to be repaired back to the required OEM standards and was refurbished back to being a virtually new unit. The customer took the opportunity to upgrade the hydraulic attachment whilst the unit was offsite and shortly after arriving the Transmin MD25/25 was looking shiny with a new coat of paint and ready to be returned to site.
Once the unit has returned to site, being back to OEM standards means that the unit is ready to easily perform for another 10+ years of breaking up crusher blockages, with the additional advantage of now having a heavy-duty Epiroc hydraulic hammer fitted.
